How to Check Your Insurance Coverage for Nutrition Counseling
To confirm your insurance coverage for medical nutrition therapy, call the Member Services number listed on the back of your insurance card. Here are key questions to ask:
Is medical nutrition therapy/nutrition counseling covered under my plan?
If yes, how many how many sessions are included in my benefits?
Do I need an authorization number? (If required, your primary care physician must submit a referral to obtain it. We need this number before billing your appointment.)
Are these services limited to specific diagnoses?
Is there a deductible to meet before coverage begins?
Do I need a physician referral? (If so, please have this completed 3 days before your visit.)
What is my co-pay for nutrition counseling?
*Plan names and coverage vary by network.
*Medicaid (MassHealth/Neighborhood Health/BMC) currently does not cover nutrition counseling.
